This session will engage users in a discussion around the evolution of lecture. How can we compete with today’s technology and distractions without losing the integrity of our academic work? We will share the various lecture schemas and strategies that have worked in keeping up with the changing landscape. Let’s discuss how technology has impacted the way we teach, the nuanced relationship between teacher:technology and how we can leverage technology to strengthen that relationship between teacher:student during the lecture. Is all lecture bad? Should it be replaced or can it evolve and how can we force that evolution? We’ll tackle these questions and leave middle/high school participants with ideas they can take back to their school on how to re-examine their own teaching styles. Apps we will discuss include: Nearpod, Keynote and ClassKick. Audience: Intermediate to advanced skill level.

When to Say Yes, and How to Say No
Although technology can offer new and exciting learning experiences, teachers often complain that cell phones, iPads and laptops are simply making students more distracted. Many teachers feel frustrated about having to spend much of their class time and attention policing the classroom to make sure everyone is on task. In this session, we will discuss key strategies to maximize student engagement and minimize the potential for distraction. Participants will come away with a plan for how to establish and maintain a classroom where technology enhances, not detracts, from learning.

Apps to Review Concepts
Learning content in any course requires review. Some students need more time than others. You can do short assessments to see what students already know, you can use quick reviews to bridge a previous lesson with new material, or "put it all together" at the end of a unit. Some apps are ideal for getting the whole class active in review. However, other times we need to assign self-paced independent work. In this session we will sample a few apps that you can use with your students to review concepts in many ways: Quizlet, Kahoot! and Inspiration Maps.

Please come with Apps downloaded to save time.
This session is best accomplished with both a laptop and an iPad.

Create, Explain, and Share with Seesaw
Come learn how to use the online learning journal app, Seesaw. Seesaw provides opportunities for students to turn in digital work such as videos, photos, and interactive white board recordings. It even syncs with many other apps on the iPad for students to turn in projects! Seesaw gives students creative ways to show their learning. Parents can also be added to see the work taking place in the classroom and make comments on their child's work. Lastly, teachers have a collection of student work neatly compiled with easy access from the entire year. This app is fantastic for primary grades, but could really work in every grade! Come experience what it's like as a student in my class, check out some awesome classroom examples, and take time to setup your own class. Download the app Seesaw in preparation - great for all levels of tech experience.

Let's Have a Smashing Good Time with Apps!
iPads are an awesome tool for creating in the classroom, but there isn't one app that does it all. Come learn how to "smash apps" to make them work for you. For example, you can make a drawing in one app, then smash it with another app to add text, and then put it in to another to add a voice recording. This is a hands-on session where we will get creative with how we use apps! Download the apps Paper by 53, Canva, Padlet, iMovie, and Tellagami in preparation. This is a skill that all grade levels can become great at! Audience: intermediate to advanced iPad users.
